SLG Co-founder Cecily-Jackson Zapata, serving as Of-counsel, is particularly passionate about assisting non-profit, hybrid and for-profit entities that use business strategies to solve systemic problems. She does so with the expertise she has garnered providing legal representation to non-profit organizations, social enterprises, hybrid entities and small businesses in California and Washington DC.
After working in the tax departments at Miller & Chevalier in Washington, and Latham & Watkins LLP in Los Angeles, Cecily served as Senior Staff Attorney in Pubic Counsel’s Community Development Project beginning in 2001, providing corporate (including corporate governance), transactional, real estate, employment and intellectual property legal representation to nonprofit and for-profit entities. In 2007, she joined CARAT, where she managed three comprehensive capacity building programs designed to train nonprofit leaders, small business counselors and small business owners in strategic planning, financial management, earned-revenue ventures, marketing and communications, and broadband technology. In 2010, Cecily established her nonprofit and social enterprise law practice, and in 2012, she formed Sustainable Law Group, P.C. with Becki Ueno.
Ms. Jackson-Zapata currently serves as President, and on the Boards of Directors of L.A. Kitchen, and on the Boards of Social Enterprise Alliance, Strong Food, and Phase One Foundation. From 2011 to 2013, she was a member of Union Bank’s Community Advisory Board.
